Back to School

School begins August 1st, 2019.

We look forward to seeing our students back in class on time on Wednesday, August 21, 2019! This back to school page is your hub for all of the news and information you need to prepare for a great start to the 2019-2020 school year. We encourage you to bookmark this page and check back often for updates! Starting on August 1, follow #TPSBack2School on the Tulsa Public Schools FacebookTwitter, and Instagram pages to stay up to date on the new school year.

The first two days of school for pre-kindergarten students are reserved for orientation and screenings (August 21-22). The first full day of school for all pre-kindergarten students is August 23, 2019.

All schools will hold an orientation meeting to meet with pre-k students and their families on the first day of school (August 21, 2019).

This is an attendance requirement. Students who do not attend the orientation meeting or their scheduled assessment/screening meeting (regardless of date scheduled) must be counted absent as they cannot count in the school membership until they attend school.

The pre-kindergarten screening assessment will be held on the first two instructional days of the 2019-2020 school year, by appointment. All pre-kindergarten students should be scheduled for a 30 minute screening assessment on August 21 OR August 22, which will be conducted 1:1 by their teacher.

Supplies

There are no school supply lists for Key Elementary. The Tulsa Community Foundation donates all required school supplies for students at Key through a program called Supplied for Success. The program aims to ensure that economic inequality does not lead to an inequality of opportunity for students in the classroom. Supplies are delivered to school before the first day and distributed to each classroom. You don't have to pick anything up or carry anything to school.  We are very fortunate to have this program available at Key.
Teachers have wish lists for supplies not provided, and if you want to help the classroom it will be greatly appreciated.

We use three guiding principles to make decisions about postponing or closing schools for inclement weather:

  • Time spent in the classroom is integral to preparing students for academic success.
  • Students and staff must be able to get to and from school safely.
  • Parents and guardians must have adequate time to make arrangements for transportation or childcare.

School closings or delays are communicated widely through our website, social media, SchoolMessenger communication system, and local news outlets.
